Blackwood Fire Company's 31st Annual Christmas Parade

Come join us as we celebrate the joy of Chirstmas on Saturday December 7th at 6pm. The parade will start from Davistown Road and the Black Horse Pike, traveling North to through downtown Blackwood to Church Street. Afterwards feel free to sptop in and visit Santa, get some hot chocolate and cookies.

For those who wish to participate in the parade, there is no pre-registration, you can register that night at the C.W. Lewis School on Erial Road starting at 5pm.

What we do ask is that anyone participating please bring 1 unwrapped box of Lego’s to be donated to CHOP in memory of Nico Cassabria.

Rescue 84 and Engine 88 extricate one

Rescue 84 and Engine 88 responded an accident in downtown Blackwood. Engine 88 arrived to find a two vehicle accident and found one patient in need of a door removal. Both crews from 88 & 84 worked together to safe the vehicle, assure proper stabilization was in place, and removed the passenger side door.

Two patients were transported to local hospitals, the accident is under investigation of the GTPD.

Rescue repsonds to Crash on NJ Rt 42

Earlier this afternoon Rescue 84 and Engine 88 were dispatched with Gloucester County companies to Route 42 North for a reported Motor Vehicle Accident. Upon arrival of the first due units it was discovered to be a 4 car accident involving a motorcycle spread across all 3 lanes of travel.

Rescue 84 assisted in patient assessment and removal to be taken care of by EMS. In total 4 patients were taken to area hospitals.

This accident is under investigation but the NJSP.

Tower and Engine Respond to Dryer Fire in Dist. 2

Engine 842 and Tower Ladder 84 responded to Fire District # 2 for a reported dwelling fire. First arriving companies (Engine 88 and Tower 82) found a dryer on fire in the residence, the fire was quickly extinguished with no extension. TL 84 arrived as the second due truck and laddered the Dwelling, Engine 842 arrived as the fourth due engine and assisted TL84 crew.

No injuries were reported, this fire is under investigation by the local fire marshal.

Rescue Responds to Afternoon Dwelling Fire

Yesterday afternoon just before 2pm TaskForce 82-2 was alerted to a report of a house on fire. First arriving companies arrived with smoke showing, and upon further investigation fire was located on division 2 of the bravo side. Rescue 84 arrived as the second due special service and assisted interior hose teams from a bravo side window along with venting the area of the attic fan. The fire was placed under control soon after and companies began clearing up.

NEW JERSEY MOVE OVER LAW

We all see New Jersey State Police, Fire, EMS and Roadside Assistance and tow truck drivers along New Jersey highways. Did you know there is a Move Over Law? To help protect the first responders on the highway , when approaching an emergency scene please SLOW DOWN and move over a lane. We have families that we want to go home to. Take some time to slow down and move over, put the phone down and pay attention, our lives depend on it!! Below is the NJ law.

New Jersey Statute 39:4-92.2

Procedure for motorist approaching stationary authorized emergency vehicle, tow truck, highway maintenance or emergency service vehicle.

1. a. The operator of a motor vehicle approaching a stationary authorized emergency vehicle as defined in R.S.39:1-1 that is displaying a flashing, blinking or alternating red or blue light or, any configuration of lights containing one of these colors, shall approach the authorized emergency vehicle with due caution and shall, absent any other direction by a law enforcement officer, proceed as follows:

(1) Make a lane change into a lane not adjacent to the authorized emergency vehicle if possible in the existing safety and traffic conditions; or

(2) If a lane change pursuant to paragraph (1) of subsection a. of this section would be impossible, prohibited by law or unsafe, reduce the speed of the motor vehicle to a reasonable and proper speed for the existing road and traffic conditions, which speed shall be less than the posted speed limit, and be prepared to stop.

b. The operator of a motor vehicle approaching a stationary tow truck as defined in section 1 of P.L.1999, c.396 (C.39:3-84.6) that is displaying a flashing amber light or a stationary highway maintenance or emergency service vehicle that is operated by the State, an authority or a county or municipality and displaying flashing yellow, amber, or red lights shall approach the vehicle with due caution and shall, absent any other direction by a law enforcement officer, proceed as follows:

(1) Make a lane change into a lane not adjacent to the tow truck or highway maintenance or emergency service vehicle if possible in the existing safety and traffic conditions; or

(2) If a lane change under paragraph (1) of subsection b. of this section would be impossible, prohibited by law or unsafe, reduce the speed of the motor vehicle to a reasonable and proper speed for the existing road and traffic conditions, which speed shall be less than the posted speed limit, and be prepared to stop.

c. A violation of this section shall be punished by a fine of not less than $100 and not more than $500.

Training on a warm summer night

The dedicated volunteers of the Blackwood Fire Company continued there block of rescue training by honing their skills on vehicle stabilization with a vehicle on it’s side. By doing it in a controlled setting members are given the chance to practice their skills and learn new ones. If you’ve ever wondered or thought about joining our team. Stop down on any Tuesday night and talk to anyone of us. We are always looking for more volunteers to help serve the community. Training, uniforms and a cool hat provided!!
