It is with regret that we announce the passing of Past Chief Walter Spain. Walt as known to everyone, served the residents of Blackwood for 55 years in the fire service. Walt was the Blackwood Fire Company Chief in 1980 and also served as Company President from 1986-1987. Walt was a retired school teacher and has had an impact on many lives. From his war stories and knowledge of history and current events, Walt would strike a conversation with anyone and offer a fresh cup of coffee. Walt Spain was the true definition of a life member and was bestowed the honor of having our newly renovated members lounge dedicated to him. Walt will be missed by all of us here at the Blackwood Fire Company as guys like him are not easily replaced.
